There are a few that stick in our minds, long after the client has received their personalised t shirts. These tend to be the designs that are related to childhood cartoons, movies or computer games, as most of us are geeks at heart. They are usually cleverly conceived and near genius in execution.
As a rule, we don’t share our clients designs, so I can’t show you the favourites we’ve printed, but we’ve spent some time searching the internet to come up with a list of our top 9 favourite designs of recent years.
9. STARCHEOLOGY
What’s not to love about this design? It encompasses two of the most beloved films of all time, in a clever and thoughtful way. Not only George Lucas’s epic Star Wars, but also Spielberg’s Indiana Jones.
The culmination of two iconic characters, Indiana Jones himself and Han Solo, both iconically played by Harrison Ford.
8. THE PIPE
Another movie referenced T-Shirt, but also combining a legendary video game. The Ring is known for it’s menacing depictions of a young girl climbing from the well she was thrown down by her crazed mother. This combined with the iconic green pipe from the Super Mario Bros gives the viewer multiple visual references to ponder as it flashes by in the street.
The added crown is a further reference to the princess that Mario is trying to save in the games.
7. FORCE FITNESS
If you own a fitness brand and are a Star Wars fan, I can guarantee you are sitting there now thinking “why didn’t I think of that?”. If you’ve seen the films, you will know this is from the scene when Yoda is training Luke to be a Jedi, hence the personal training reference.
This design is genius, from the concept to the execution. The Tie Fighter dumbbells are a fantastically clever extra detail that add another layer.
6. IT CAME OUT OF NOWHERE
As I said at the beginning of the article, most of these designs are based around films and video games. This one combines two iconic time travel productions, one T.V. based and one movie. Dr Who is one of the best loved sci-fi t.v shows of all time and Back To The Future is equally as well known.
This design is well drawn and makes the viewer wonder what would happen if these two time travellers accidentally bumped into each other on their travels.
5. THE 5 SECOND RULE
We’ve all heard of the 5 second rule. If not, then you’ve probably cried over dropped food many more times than others. This completely non-scientifically based rule tells us that as long as it’s under 5 seconds, it’s perfectly acceptable and safe to grab your dropped food from the floor and eat it without any harmful bacteria being transmitted into your body. This design illustrates just that, in a humorous way. It shows the germs waiting, as if they cannot strike until 5 seconds is up.
We think this is a very clever design that takes an existing old wives tale and turns it into a modern T-Shirt print that any self respecting food lover would wear happily.
4. HOW RAINBOWS ARE MADE
“A rainbow is a meteorological phenomenon that is caused by reflection, refraction and dispersion of light in water droplets resulting in a spectrum of light appearing in the sky. It takes the form of a multicoloured arc. Rainbows caused by sunlight always appear in the section of the sky directly opposite the sun.”
Well, either that or the clouds just had a bit too much to drink the night before.
I can still appreciate this t-shirt design. Imagine living in a world where rainbows were in fact the vomit of drunken clouds. How awesome would that be? Awesome.
3. CASUAL FRIDAY
I know, I know, another Star Wars based design, but you have to agree, it’s pretty good. Everyone is aware of the expression “casual Friday” or “dress down Friday”, that’s what’s so genius about this design. Imagine a stormtrooper not having to where the bulk of their uniform on a Friday. I’m not sure the emperor would allow it, but even so, it’s a great idea for a T-Shirt.
The added bonus is the T-Shirt the Stormtrooper’s wearing himself.
2. HOSPITALITY!
If you’ve never played Mortal Combat, then you’ve saved yourself from hours of frustrating button bashing and exposure to gruesome scenes of blood and gore. If you have played it before, then you’ll know all about the “Fatality” type endings to the fights in which you can either finish off your opponent in an inexplicably violent way or turn them into a baby, give them a gift, turn into an animal etc etc.
This t-shirt design plays on that, with a cleverly conceived picture of what would happen if the characters had degrees in hospitality. Genius.
1. SLICE
Unfortunately, we cannot source the creator of this design, but we all feel it’s one of the most creative designs we’ve ever seen. It would need to be printed using our All Over Dye Sublimation printing technique, mainly due to the size of the print. The impact is incredible and is a very unique way of thinking about T-Shirt design and printing.
We only wish we could find the owner of the design so we could discuss getting some printed for ourselves!
